Poetry, Storytelling and Creative Writing

Based on the Inspireland school workshops, these are without a shadow of a doubt the most fun young people will ever have putting pen to paper. We teach the skills of storytelling, creating a worlds, characters and plots through writing and performing poetry. These workshops have featured on RTE TwoTube, RTE 1’s Nationwide, RTE Arena, RTE Radio 1’s Poetry Programme, The Irish Times, the Independent, The Journal and the Irish Examiner.

Animation, Puppetry & Shadow Art

Drawing from the worlds and characters created in the Creative Writing Workshops, worlds are conjured and paper is brought to life, sparked by the imagination to dance with the darkness and light. The characters, both heroes and monsters created on day one. are brought to life in dramatic fashion. Heroes rise from the shadows, creatures leap from the light. Tales are told of bravery and adventure in ways never experienced before.

Urban Art, Illustration and Stencils

Students will learn the tricks of the trade with some of Ireland’s most talented young artists. They will cover a variety of styles including graphic novel, cartoon and still life. Students will use pencil, ink and charcoal, developing their drawing and painting skills. We will also look at the history of street art, and students will make their own stencils creating exhibits of the poetry produced on day one.

Film, Drama & Performance

This is all about confidence building and helping young people come out of their shells. Learning the basic techniques of acting, performance and public speaking, the first part of the day is spent acting out scenes from each of the stories they have written, illustrated and cast as shadows. They then make short films of their shadow puppetry plays using iPads, creative lighting and their new-found performance techniques.

Craft Book, Print and Portfolio

To wrap up the week students make a stunning Inspireland Accordion Craft Book, which will serve as a memento and souvenir that they will want to keep with them forever. They will also receive their Inspireland Souvenir Pack, which includes a tote bag jam- packed with their poetry, stories, illustrations, photographs, Inspireland T-Shirts, badges, pens and memorabilia.
