Summer Activities for Creative Teens: Why Art Camps Work

Teenagers need space. Space to explore ideas, to try things out, to make mistakes without fear of getting it wrong. They also need connection – not just through screens, but in person, with people who get them.
That’s one of the reasons art camps work so well.
For creative teens, the summer holidays can feel long. Some want to draw all day. Others are bursting with ideas but unsure how to begin. Some just want to be around like-minded people who understand what it’s like to be a little different.
Art camp gives them that space.

Over the course of a week, they’re introduced to real artistic techniques – including digital animation, comics, character design and more. But more than that, they’re given time to experiment, to focus, and to make something that’s entirely their own. That sense of ownership is powerful.

There’s no competition. No pressure to speak up if they don’t want to. And for those who come on their own (many do), we always make sure they’re paired up with others in the same boat. That quiet sense of belonging builds quickly.

Being absorbed in creative work also has a calming effect. It helps teens manage anxiety, process emotions, and feel capable in ways that traditional classroom settings don’t always allow. At the end of a session, you can often feel the shift – more relaxed, more settled, and more confident in who they are.

So if you’re looking for a holiday activity that goes beyond keeping your teen occupied, art camp might be the thing. It’s creative, social, grounded, and open to everyone. And sometimes, it’s exactly what they didn’t know they needed.

This summer, we’re running Art and Animation Camps in Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway, Mayo, and Meath. Click the link below to book a place for your talented teen artist.
