Chessnut Brown

Her eyes were a chestnut brown, dark rings shadowed them.

A smile always painted onto her lip,

She wore it like a mask believing it hid her tear stained cheeks,

When she smiled, I mean really smiled her face smiled

Not just her lips, I knew that she hadn’t smiled in weeks

Rumour said she cut herself

They said she almost killed herself

But how could that be true?

She had such a pretty little smile, how could she of all people, be blue?

They looked but never saw

If their eyes lingered a second longer they’d see a crack in her façade

Why would they though?

A pretty little thing like her,

They stared but never saw

Not wanting to believe the rumours

They didn’t want to know,

They heard but never listened.

As the rumours were true,

Not just tall tales re told
They said that she’d be stuck,

They say that “when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade,”

But the truth is, kid, if life doesn’t also hand you sugar and water, your lemonade’s gonna suck.

What is Success

What is success?

Whatever it is it causes much stress.

Trying to be the best, though you may fall

Know that success is the hardest test of them all.

It’s a tough question, but a good lesson

We need some self-expression in our lives

’cause peer pressure cuts through us like knives.

We force ourselves to be who we’re not,

Square peg round hole,

Then after school just livin’ on the dole.

Being labelled as a failure ain’t so hot

but it can help you tailor

your life towards happiness, that’s what

it should be about, not money,

Because without happiness,

Life isn’t so funny.

SIZE

small and fast
quick but light
in the dark
and out of sight
under floor boards
and through the wall
tiny footprints fat and small
these tiny creatures are the best of all
and they can be big and they can be
small

Depression

Drugs make people happy

Though they may not be good,

People don’t make good decisions

Though they know that they should.

Drug abuse is so common

Even though it is bad,

But many who use them

Are depressingly sad.

If you’re sad don’t do drugs

Please don’t ruin your life,

And never EVER

On your body use a knife.

Love yourself like you are

You don’t need to change,

In your own way you’re beautiful

Even if you’re ‘strange’

Creatures of The Night

Outside the bedroom window, the owl hoots

And the strange man slips into his boots

Out through the garden gate

The owl watches him with beady eyes full of hate

It does not trust him, I know not why

The man gazes up at the nights dark sky

The owl stays perched silently in its treetop seat

As the man walks, stones and twigs crunching beneath his feet

The man gradually leaves the owl’s line of sight

As he walks away, into the darkness of the night.

Troops

Why is it that rumours spread around our schools like a deadly virus?

And that the people who seem the happiest, are really going through some kind of crisis.

Why is it that if we don’t “get with the system”, we’re seen as some kind of fools?

And the school is set into different groups, the nerds and the cool.

Why is it that the number one school rule is everyone is equal,

Yet our peers can come up with words that can really strike lethal

Why is it that when in school, stress is a constant loop,

The school is the battlefield, and we are the troops.

3 years

It started in year one, at 13 years old,
With 3 years of hell yet to unfold.
She started out with 3 best friends,
But one turned sour, and she was alone by year end.

In year 2, at 14 years old,
A girl dived into a depression, she was still alone,
Everyday her wrists gently wept,
She was constantly haunted by dreams of death

In year 3, at 15 years old,
She found some friends but still felt alone,
She was constantly haunted by voices in her head whispering to her
“Don’t you wish you were dead?”

Dark Room

Elise woke up in a dark room

The lights were on

But her heart was black

Alone she stood in the elevator

Death was her only spectator

Her demons continued to grow stronger

She will soon be living no longer

One leap would end it all

But her eyes wandered to the dark water

Inside the rusty water tank

As she sank a false ecstasy came upon her

The water filled her lungs and drowned her thoughts

But little could she know her demons could swim.

School

Education is essential,

To allow us to reach our full potential,

But school … school is bizarre,

A place where students watch teachers speak from a far.

What good is this to us,

When we can’t even discuss,

On topics that interest us,

That just highlights the indifference between

Us and teachers.

Wouldn’t it be better,

To learn together,

And use our skills,

To fulfil the thrill,

Of education?

Why Bother?

It is always the same.
This little voice in my head always asking.
Every moment of my uneventful life is distorted by one simple question.
Why bother?
My parents often ask me why I’m so lazy or why I lack motivation,
I do not lack motivation,
I am simply trying to fabricate an answer to the question.
Why bother?
I can often leave this question unanswered and continue with my mundane activities,
But when I am alone in silence,
And all I am in that moment is a vacant body
I have no choice.
I must answer the question.
Why bother?
Why do I bother?
I bother because I must,
We as humans have an obligation to bother.
Without care or effort our society fails,
I know that i am nothing but a number in a crowd,
But to my friends,
My family,
I am more than that.
I am a reason to smile,
A reason to laugh,
A reason to not give up.
I am hope.
That is why I bother.

Run of life (private)

All ways being judged

Challenges set so high

Never enough

All ways more

Work, work, work till you drop

You are just a number

And nothing more

Trying your best

Is never enough

So enjoy it while you can

Before you are done

Love for the Drink.

Alcohol comes in at the mouth
And love comes in at the eye;
That’s all we shall know.
Before we all grow old and die.
You lift the glass to your mouth,
I look at you, and sigh.

A Part of You.

Imagine,
Your best friend is having a heated argument
With a person who is beyond idiotic
Your friend knows their argument is wrong
But there is no way to convince them otherwise
The argument worsens.
Then the person begins to realise
They’re just being stupid
They’re wrong, they can’t win
And it just makes them worse.
They start lashing, bashing
Hurting your friend
Who soon enough realises
This can’t be won
And walks away.
Unfortunately,
You’re the only one who can make amends
Between this person and your friend
The only one who can apologise for them
This huge mess is left for you to clean up
Wouldn’t you hate that person?
Now just imagine that person being a part of you.
